Terms of use for the Amtwise app

Last updated: 28 September 2026

1. Provider and scope

The Amtwise app is provided by Alena Odeon, Germany (postal address on request by e-mail) (the "Provider"). These terms govern the use of the app. Apple's standard licence agreement for App Store apps applies in addition.

2. The service

Amtwise is free of charge. The app reads the text of a photographed or imported letter, replaces personal details with placeholders on the device and, with the help of an AI service, creates a plain-language explanation in the chosen language, including the deadlines, amounts and tasks named in the letter. The app can create reminders and calendar entries. The automatic replacement of personal details works as far as technically possible; under "See what was sent" you can check the text that was sent before relying on the result.

3. No legal or tax advice

The explanations are generated automatically by an artificial intelligence. They reflect what the letter says, but do not assess your individual case and do not replace legal, tax or social-benefit advice. They can be incomplete or wrong. The letter itself is always authoritative. Deadlines calculated by the app (for example "within one month of notification") are estimates. You remain responsible for meeting deadlines, payments and appointments. When the answer matters, ask the sender of the letter or a qualified service (for example migration counselling, a consumer advice centre, a tax advisor or a lawyer).

4. Use

You may use the app only for letters addressed to you or for which you have the consent of the person concerned. You may not misuse the app, in particular by addressing the AI service in an automated way or at scale, or by circumventing the app's protective mechanisms. The app is not intended for persons under 16.

5. Availability

The app is provided without any guarantee of availability. The AI explanation needs an internet connection and may be paused at times, for example when the Provider's monthly cost limit has been reached or for maintenance. The Provider may change or discontinue the app at any time.

6. Liability

The Provider is liable without limitation for intent and gross negligence and for damage resulting from injury to life, body or health. In cases of slight negligence the Provider is liable only for the breach of an essential contractual obligation whose fulfilment is a prerequisite for the proper use of the app and on whose observance you may rely, and only for foreseeable damage typical of this kind of service. Any further liability is excluded. Because the app is provided free of charge, the Provider is otherwise liable for errors in the explanations only if they were fraudulently concealed. Liability under the German Product Liability Act remains unaffected.

7. Rights in the app and in your content

The app and its content are protected by copyright. You receive a simple, non-transferable right to use the app for private purposes. Your letters and the explanations created from them remain your content; the Provider acquires no rights in them and has no access to them.

8. Data protection

How the app handles data is described in the Privacy Policy (Settings → Legal).

9. Changes to these terms

The Provider may change these terms with effect for the future where there is a valid reason (for example changes to the app or to the law). The current version is shown in the app; material changes are announced at the next launch.

10. Final provisions

The law of the Federal Republic of Germany applies. If you are a consumer habitually resident in another EU member state, the mandatory consumer-protection rules of that state remain unaffected. Should any provision of these terms be invalid, the remaining provisions remain in force. In case of discrepancies between the German and a translated version, the German version prevails.
